You might have noticed that we’ve begun work on Round Valley Express. Our goal is to improve existing trails to create a safe, and sustainable soft-surface pathway connection through Round Valley. This project will provide a myriad of long-term, year-round benefits in our beloved open space.
Round Valley is bisected by double-track trails which can be combined to form a contiguous route from Quinn’s Round Valley trailhead to Highland Drive. Many of these old trails are the original farm roads which have become rutted and off-camber. These conditions present safety concerns and make winter grooming in low snow conditions more difficult. Notably, a significant portion of Round Valley Express has degraded to the point of being unusable.
The long-term solution is to improve these trails to a consistent, contiguous, 8-10 ft wide, compacted surface. We will also reroute an existing “fall-line” trail segment to enhance sustainability, ease grooming effort and improve user experience. Finally, we will rehabilitate and restore old and unused sections of the trail to allow for the return of native vegetation.
This Mountain Trails Foundation project is funded by the Summit County RAP Tax Grant and made possible in collaboration with Park City Municipal’s Trails and Open Space Department, Summit Land Conservancy and the support of generous donors.
We aim to have this project completed before the first of July. During construction, you may encounter equipment on the trails, primarily in the Round Valley Express trail corridor and Highland Drive trailhead area. Please give equipment and operators a wide berth and respect closures.
