Bonanza Winter Shuttle Service

The Bonanza Winter Shuttle will operate Fridays, Saturdays, and Sundays from 8:45 a.m. to 4:45 p.m. from December 19, 2025 through April 19, 2026 (weather permitting), with 30-minute frequency coordinated directly with Park City Transit’s 9 Purple Route timetable. 

Shuttle riders will board at Empire Canyon Lodge, which is accessible by taking the 9 Purple Route from the Old Town Transit Center to the Montage stop, then walking to the designated pick-up zone.  

This service is seasonal and subject to change. Dogs welcome on all Park City Transit routes with leash and muzzle in designated area of the bus. Buses can accommodate 11 riders per trip along with spots for four fat-tire bikes, cross-country ski gear, and snowshoes.

Help Stop Sticker Slapping

A Call to Fingers

As I move around the trail system lately, it has been hard to ignore the growing number of rogue stickers on trail signage. Let’s be clear folks, sticker slapping is a no-no! It is vandalism. 

Thus, in the spirit of keeping Park City’s friendly trails well cared for, MTF asks trail users who care to help us remove any and all unsanctioned stickers from trail signs. Peel ’em off and pack ’em out.  

Trail signs are 1) a wayfinding tool and 2) a donor/sponsor recognition tool.  Speaking to the latter, the one and only perk an Adopt A Trail sponsor gets, aside from feeling nice for helping fund trail maintenance, is recognition on trail signage. To diminish that is not just a sticker slap, it’s a slap to a generous donor.

Round Valley Express Success

We are proud to announce the grand re-opening of Round Valley Express trail. This newly improved and aligned pathway provides a contiguous 3-mile connection between Quinn’s Junction trailhead and Highland Dr., traversing the center of Round Valley.

This project was aimed at enhancing usability, navigation, and long-term sustainability. The year-round benefits stem from an improved surface that can be used in a variety of weather conditions. The improvements allow passage for wider adaptive equipment and will help winter grooming by providing a consistent even surface that requires minimal snow coverage for grooming.

We know that Round Valley Express will quickly become a mainstay of the Round Valley experience, please join us as we thank those who made it possible. $250,000 in funding from the Summit Country RAP Recreation Tax Grant and MTF donors, collaboration from Park City Municipal Trails and Open Space Department and Summit Land Conservancy, Basin Recreation, and a herculean effort from our contractor Chase Smith of Race n Chase.

A little backstory….

Traveling from Quinn’s trailhead to Highland Drive through Round Valley utilizes a patchwork of historic ranch roads and trails that date back to the area’s use as a ranch. Significant portions of these roads and trails had deteriorated to the point where their viability, even as singletrack, was questionable in some spots, flat out dangerous in others, and often not conducive to high-quality winter grooming. Other sections were subject to seasonal flooding, which created deep ruts and hazards that required regular and costly rebuilding.

Mountain Trails Foundation, in coordination with landowner, Park City Municipal, developed a plan to improve the entire route. We connected and improved existing sections of the trail and rerouted unsustainable portions. By implementing appropriate drainage features, applying road-base material, and constructing a long-lasting surface, we’ve created something that can be enjoyed by a wide range of users year-round and for generations to come. Wayfinding is eased by naming the entire trail, start to finish, Round Valley Express.

Recycle Utah’s Fluoro Ski Wax Take Back Program

Attention skiers – fluorinated waxes are bad for us and the environment! The PFAS aka “forever chemicals” they contain have been detected in our local groundwater wells and wastewater.

Recycle Utah, Snyderville Basin Water Reclamation District and City Government of Park City, Utah have teamed up to collect your leftover Fluro wax at Recycle Utah and White Pine Touring now through April 15th.

Mountain Trails Foundation works to preserve the trails in Park City – Featured in PC Style Magazine

Building, maintaining, and protecting trails for non-motorized recreation in an outdoor adventure-centered community like Park City is no small task.

But for Mountain Trails Foundation (MTF) Executive Director Lora Smith, it’s a mission that is deeply important and personal because Park City’s trails are central to her life.

“When I was raising my boys, we had great trail adventures. When I need to ponder a problem, burn off stress, or have the urge to explore, I hit the trails,” she says. “When I socialize, it’s often on the trails. With nearly every other facet of my life involving trails, why not a career as well?”

Lora started at MTF as the resource manager in 2012 and quickly realized it was a career path she was passionate about. Already educated in communications and organizational leadership, she completed the University of Utah’s nonprofits in excellence and executive leadership programs to prepare for the next step….
