2024 Trail Crew

Hi! I was born and raised in Boise, ID amongst the Boise foothills and all the trail and open space they offered. This is what became a lifetime of outdoor pursuits, and it was trails that got me there.

Prior to Mountain Trails Foundation, I was with the Forest Service for nearly 15 years, mostly in trails/rec. management, but with a 6-year detour as a wildland firefighter. I’m very excited to now be working with Mountain Trails and such a treasured and long-standing trail system!

My favorite trails are the Helena, MT system trails for riding and anything in the Frank Church-River of No Return Wilderness for the peace and solitude.

The song I would most likely sing at Karaoke is “Thunder Road” by The Boss.

My name is Zach Strickland hailing originally from Massachusetts. I moved to Utah in 2015, starting off in Logan, UT working for the Utah Conservation Corps. After a couple years of AmeriCorps I fell in the love with the West and felt like sticking around so I moved down to Park City. Splitting my time by working in a ski shop and building trails. After spending the ’17/’18 Summers with MTF I headed back east but only made it to Colorado where I spent four summers leading projects for the Colorado Fourteeners Initiative.

My favorite trail is the Thunder Mountain trail.

If I had to only choose one karaoke song, my go to is Friends in Low Places by Garth Brooks.

Growing up in Driggs Idaho, I’m no stranger to multiple forms of outdoor recreation.  However, I wish I had discovered mountain biking earlier in my life as it quickly became my main passion and outdoor hobby.

Starting my education of learning how to build and maintain trails through five seasons of working for Mountain Bike the Tetons in Driggs, I’m currently starting my 5th season with MTF to further my trail-building education.

My favorite bike trail is probably Lithium trail off the top of Teton Pass on the Wyoming border near Driggs.

I don’t have a go-to karaoke song since that’s not my style. However, if someone had a gun pointed at my crotch, I suppose I would choose the song “Never Gonna Give You Up” by Rick Astley.

Hi, my name is Derek deHaas. I grew up near Albuquerque, New Mexico and have been working in the outdoor industry since 2009, mostly in bike and ski shops. I moved to Park City in 2014 and have never wanted to leave. I love each season in Park City and the endless opportunities to enjoy being outside, from chasing snow to riding my bikes wherever they take me, and I’m excited to play a part in our community with Mountain Trails.

My favorite trail in Park City is Insurgent.

One more thing, when the karaoke spirit calls to me, you might hear me sing You Never Even Called Me By My Name, by David Allan Coe

I was born in Chicago and transplanted to Park City in 2012. I never looked back! The access to the mountains here is amazing. As an avid cyclist I try to ride my bike every day I can, and Park City is the perfect place. I look forward to helping expand and improve this already trail-rich community.

I enjoy riding steeper terrains like Insurgent and Evil Empire, hope they melt out soon!

My karaoke jam of choice is definitely “War Pigs” by Black Sabbath.

Hello! I’m originally from Elkhart, IN, but moved to Sun Valley, ID after getting my degree in Recreational Therapy in Grand Rapids, MI. I moved to Park City for ski season and have been stoked to stick around the last few years!

On my days off I love to climb on some of the sweet limestone Utah provides!
In addition to working for Mountain Trails, I also manage The Crag Climbing Gym in Heber City and work for the National Ability Center as an adaptive ski instructor in the winter.

Favorite Karaoke Song: Harness Your Hopes by Pavement
Favorite Trail: King’s Peak

Looking forward to seeing you all on the trails!
