Mountain Trails

From the Field – Summer 2021 Recap

January 11, 2022 by Mountain Trails

Mountain Trails’ crew dove into several major projects this summer.

In early spring, work began on two lower elevation projects. Over in the SkyRidge development near the Jordanelle Reservoir, the team completed a challenging 1.5 mile continuation of the Milky Way trail up to the summit of SkyRidge Peak. This trail will eventually be “uphill only” for bikes (including eMTB’s) and two miles downhill. A bike-only trail is planned for next summer to complete the loop.

The second project, the Lynx trail, is 1.5 mile trail that creates a key climbing connection from Richardson Flat Rd. and Park City Heights up to the Lost Prospector trail system. This is the first phase of a multi-year trail plan for the Park City Heights area.

Over at Park City Mountain, the crew overhauled the badly blown-out lower section of the Crescent Mine Grade (CMG) trail. This required the machine and hand rebuild of nine switchbacks leading into the resort base area – it was no small feat. We collaborated with the resort on the First Time Return – a super-fun, flow trail that created a much needed bypass of the base area operations.

As soon as the snow melted up on the mountain, the team began work on our two largest projects of the season: the Mother Urban and Cyn City trails.

When completed, the Mother Urban trail will create a moderate, 4-mile (uphill only for bikes) climb from the base of Treasure Hill to Mid Mountain trail near the King Road, alleviating pressure on Jenni’s and Armstrong.

The Cyn City trail is a 2.5 mile, directional-down, bike-only trail, descending from Charlie’s 9K near Black Forest to Mid Mountain, a thousand feet below. This intermediate “flow” trail is guaranteed to keep you grinning from top to bottom.

G-Form Partners to Support Local Trail Builders

December 10, 2021 by Mountain Trails

Our Friends at G-form have created a great opportunity to support your local trail organization with their Soil Sessions line, here’s what they have to say:

“With Soil Sessions, we have created an exclusive line of apparel that speaks to all levels of mountain bike riders where together we will support trail organizations to help build and maintain the trails we love to ride. For each apparel item sold, profits will directly go back to trails in the area of the organization. Apparel will be released in limited batches throughout the year and will change with the seasons. We are excited to launch the initial partnership with the Sierra Buttes Trail Stewardship, Evergreen MTB Alliance, and Park City Mountain Trails.”

Wasatch Trails Foundation News

December 10, 2021 by Mountain Trails

Greetings from Wasatch Trails foundation and your fellow trail lovers in Wasatch County!  We are stoked to continue working with our partners at Mountain Trails Foundation to spread the trail love along the Wasatch Back.

Wasatch Trails Foundation is excited to announce that we’ll once again be grooming fat biking trails at the Jordanelle Ridge Trail System (AKA Coyote/Riverview)!  Thanks to a generous donation from our partners at Momentum Development we will have new and improved grooming equipment, and we’ll be expanding our grooming efforts on the Jordanelle Ridge trails (as conditions allow).  We will also be plowing the Cutthroat trailhead on HWY 32 throughout the winter for improved access.

Please consider becoming a member of the Wasatch Trails Foundation, or making a donation to support our winter grooming efforts and the continued expansion and maintenance of trails in the Heber Valley. Stay up-to-date with all things Wasatch Trails Foundation by joining our email list at www.wasatchtrails.org.  We look forward to seeing you out and about on the Heber Valley trails this coming winter and beyond!

Be well, be kind, happy trails and happy holidays!

Wildfire Mitigation on Treasure and Rossi Hill Open Spaces

December 10, 2021 by Mountain Trails

Park City, Utah – Park City Municipal, under the guidance of the Summit County Fire Warden and Alpine Forestry, will perform controlled burns of slash piles in the Treasure Hill and Rossi Hill Open Spaces this Friday, December 10. Controlled burning of slash piles is a form of fire mitigation designed to prevent catastrophic wildfires through safely burning cut vegetation creating defensible spaces, reducing fuel, and promoting overall forest health.

“Maintaining forest health in our open spaces is essential to keeping our community safe from the threat of wildfire,” said Councilmember Steve Joyce. “Controlled pile burning is a safe, effective, and cost-efficient method for achieving that goal.”

Burning operations strictly conform to all required county permitting, are only conducted during ideal weather conditions (including snow on the ground), and adhere to air quality regulations – all to ensure the public’s safety. Area trails will remain open.

Look for notifications during the burn day on the City’s social media channels.

Thank you for your Live PC Give PC donations

November 11, 2021 by Mountain Trails

Every November, Park City comes together for one day of giving. Livepcgivepc.org is a one-day virtual event that encourages all of Summit County, Utah to contribute to benefit our nonprofit organizations through a single online giving platform. It is uniquely Park City. The campaign is primarily coordinated by The Park City Foundation (PCF), Summit County’s community foundation, in partnership will area nonprofit organizations.

Live PC Give PC was a celebration of generosity for our trail community.

During #livepcgivepc we raised finds that will be put directly towards the building, maintenance, and preservation of trails in Park City. To those of you who donated, from the bottom of our hearts, THANK YOU! You are amazing!
